To be eligible for the NDIS, an individual must meet the following requirements:

  1. Age: The person must be under the age of 65 at the time of making an access request.
  2. Residency: The person must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or a Protected Special Category Visa holder.
  3. Disability Requirements: The person must have a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to participate effectively in activities of daily living or requires substantial support.
  4. Functional Impairment: The disability must result in a substantial functional impairment in one or more of the following areas: mobility, communication, self-care, self-management, or learning.

The NDIS will determine your funding based on your necessary support in order to live your life. This support may include education, employment, community and social participation, independence, living arrangements, and health and well-being.

There are three different options available to manage your NDIS plan, and you have the flexibility to choose one or a combination of these options based on your preferences and needs.

  1. NDIA managed - someone from the NDIS will manage your plan on your behalf.
  2. Plan manager - A third-party organization or individual who will assist you in managing your funding, processing payments to service providers, and keeping track of your budget.
  3. Self-management - If you opt for self-management, you will take on the responsibility of managing your NDIS plan. This includes handling the funding, and payments, and keeping records of your expenses.
